Actor extraordinaire, Donald Sutherland, has passed away after a long illness. He will surely be missed.

Remarkable actor, I particularly remember his performance in 1900, as an evil fascist black shirt. I read this week that he said that he cried after first seeing that performance because the character he depicted was so cruel and awful. He captured the horror of that time in his relatively brief role, more than holding his own alongside much more famous actors.

Not a performance he made (before he was born) in the year "1900".

But a movie entitled "1900", which was made in Italy in 1976 (called "the Twentieth Century" in Italy) about the struggle between Fascism and Communism in Italy in the first half of the Twentieth Century. Sutherland plays a farm overseer who joins the fascists in the post WWI era.

I, for one, never heard of the movie, until just now ...when I googled all of the above info.

Its longer than "Gone With the Wind", and has both European and American A-listers of different generations. Must be quite a cinematic experience to watch.

My favorite role of his was in Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, the 1978 remake of the original film. He played the lead, discovering how people who have "changed" actually have been replaced by emotionless invaders from space. He starred along with Leonard Nimoy, Jeff Goldblum, and Veronica Cartwright.

That sounds like a cool movie with some great actors, maybe I was too young to see it. I wonder if there's a way to stream it now? Anyone know?
