Social Security Number Data Breach by National Public Data

Hi All, I just happened to come across this article a short while ago about a Social Security Number data breach from a public company in Florida called National Public Data. A lawsuit was filed against the organization and it was alleged that potentially 2.9 million social security numbers of those alive and deceased were compromised. National Public Data claims only 1.3 million numbers were compromised. I just thought I would share the article. There is a link in the article to see if your number's been compromised. I'm not sure relatively how big a breach it is but just thought I would share. A local news station where I live in PA just happened to cover it.

I agree. It's not good to give that information out unless it's in person. It's unfortunate that this number is used for so many things these days.

Social Security numbers are a good source to create crimes with,both for criminals, and possibly governments, from all my reading and experiences, Just ask any victim of identity theft.?
The government needs to just use precision piks of individuals . imho

Although this attack primarily affects people in the U.S. it also goes on to report, this information was also stolen from the U.K. and Canada.

I read it, I tried to understand it, but it was toooo hard for me, I don't know what to do, I HATE having Learning Disabilities, it makes me feel so stupid.

No worries! I have learning difficulties too sometimes with certain things and you are not stupid at all Kitty! We all learn differently I have trouble reading full books as my attention span is just not what it used to be. Basically in the article there was a data breach by a public company in Florida called National Public Data. There were sued in a lawsuit and the lawsuit alleges that over 2.9 million social security numbers were potentially compromised or stolen by hackers. You can use this weblink to check if your social security number was among those that were compromised. If it is there are things you can do to protect it like credit checks.

They definitely are a good source to create crimes. With breaches like this the government should be trying to think of ways to not put that information at risk. Too much personal information is associated with them. I think they should move away from using them unless absolutely necessary and even then there has to be security steps involved.

I think you probably do not have credit cards or checking accounts. But maybe the people who help you and take care of you do.

So all you have to do is make sure they know about this. THEY NEED TO KNOW.
