When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

The infant physiology wouldn't know what to do with Viagra. It could very well be harmful, even fatal. THis is a really sick idea, if you ask me.

Viagra was originally devloped and used as a heart medication, but its unusual side effect in men, for which it is now famous, was noted. So they stopped using it as a heart medication.

The this case its used to help premature babies to breathe, this use is closer to its original purpose. It is a powerful vasodilator, it opens up the airways and blood vesicles of the lungs of babies and prevents them from suffocating. As far as I remember Viagra stimulates the release of nitric monoxide (NO), which in turn causes vasodilation (opening of blood vesicles).

Vasodilator topic

As a "stimulant", it does not appear to work on women.

What would happen if a woman took Viagra?

What would happen if a man took birth-control pills?

Elderly people with COPD/emphysema were discovering the pulmonary side effects of Viagra as far back as 2002...the reason the took it in the first place was usually left to the imagination  though several dear, sweet, elderly ladies tried it too and reported that it also made them feel awfully frisky...

My previous job was working on a Cardiac Surgery / Solid Organ Transplant floor in a pediatrics hospital, and Viagra was a commonly used pharmaceutical that was and is given to cardiac patients, mostly female patients.

As was already stated, Viagra started its pharmaceutical life as a vaso dilator, with a side effect of causing erections in males, and was deemed problematic because of this, until it was later used to treat erectile dysfunction.

Much the same as Benadryl (for allergies) having it's side effect (sleepyness) used to treat insomnia. Most over the counter sleep aids are really nothing more than benadryl in differing amounts. Oddly enough, dramamine (motion sickness) is also either benadryl, or a close analogue.

Problematic for who? I'll bet the old men weren't complaining.
