Portland's Mayor lies about Sexual Relationship

It is with great disappointment that I am posting this
concerning the mayor of my city, Sam Adams.

When he was Commissioner Sam Adams,
he engaged in a sexual relationship with an intern.
He told the intern to lie about it and lied to the media about it himself.
Everything blew up on January 19th, when he
called all of Portland's main news channels and told them he lied.

Can we say: "Whitewater 2.0?"

Also, if any Aspies from Oregon can back me up, it is appreciated.

PS: Mayor Adams is gay. The intern is gay too.

It's just like with Bill Clinton. It wasn't that he did what he did, it's that he lied about it.

Is this the story where he had sex with an 18 year old or was that another story?

I even met the mayor when he was still a commissioner!
Wrote a paper on him when I began college. Got an A on it.

If you substitute Sam Adams for Bill Clinton, can you imagine Mayor Adams saying this?
"I did not have sexual relations with that man; Mr. Breedlove"

With great dissapointment? Um, maybe he lied because he didn't want anyone to know? geez.. Give the poor guy a break.
Same with the clinton case, it's their personal lives, it's none of our beeswax anyway! Plus who cares if they do.. If this is something that gets you upset I'd say it's about time you get some real problems.

I was disappointed as well, I wanted him to be successful. I even voted for him.

My problem is, not that he fooled around with somebody much younger, but that not only did he lie about it, he persuaded the young man to lie about it, too. (There is some question about whether he was 18 yet at the time the relationship began.) I am sure the coverup was just to avoid the age question, which I consider to be a real concern. Otherwise, yes, it's his own personal business. But lying about it indicates there really was something to cover up. And I really don't think his being gay has anything to do with it.

And now, Mayor Adams is on the lam, hiding in an undisclosed location.

I do agree that the press IS making a big deal about it,
it is a private matter that should have never surfaced.

Do mayors have different rules than normal people?

This mayor in Portland is not as cool as Marion Barry, former mayor of DC. Marion Barry is the one that got caught on video smoking crack. He got reelected as mayor after he got out of jail. AWESOME!

I don't see what their sexual orientation has to do with it?

And if it had of been two heterosexual people it probably wouldn't have even made it as a story. If two consenting people decide to have sex why should it be broadcast? The only two reasons it should made an issue, is if the guy is married / in a relationship already and helps to preach standards and morals but does not practise them, making him a hypocrite and a point to there being a story about it or the other guy did not consent to it and did not agree at the time that they wouldn't go around telling people.
