Aspergers removed from autism catagory in new DSM

Are these people stupid? AS is clearly an autistic disorder, let me guess AS is going under the same catagory as ADHD?

The point is, people with AS are going to be diagnosed as having Autism Spectrum Disorder.

wtf, I thought AS was part of ASD.

My understanding was that they are removing Aspergers all together, and merging it with ASD. Do you have some reading material that would expand on this topic?

Asperger's as a label is going, the condition will still exist as just autism. I see this as a move forward, as Asperger's and high-functioning autism have always been the same.

There may be subtle differences, but since diagnostics are broad anyway...
Also a lot of people have other 'disorders' that change the symptoms.

For me it does not change much, my diagnosis was years ago when Aspergers was not broadly known; so officially it is still PDD (without NOS, they were not that specific). According to someone (a professional) I consulted it would now be named Aspergers, but that would not change my disability status ("arbeidsgehandicapt", not handicapped enough to get money, but bad enough to get special help for getting a job). So this change is also not affecting me.

I like it personally, theres so many people who see aspergers as being completely separate from autism no matter what I tell them.

I don't really like it because when people see paperwork on me they will see "autism" and then they will assume that I am something different then I am.

To me (since my near-obsession with the MBTI and other personality theories), some of the diagnoses in the DSM-any number seem more like personality traits.

Probably just me, but I don't think this changes anything whatsoever.

Categories are defined by how they are used. It does not change your condition.
