Who else on here has an underbite? I hate it. I have always had mouth problems since I was younger. I got my tonsils out at 5 because I couldnt swallow. I got my tongue cute at 16 because I couldnt stick it out. Now I have an underbite and it's causing me problems sleeping. I constantly bite my tongue, and I already have bad insomnia. and it hurts to smile both physically and emotionally. I'm sick of these dang mouth problems.

does anyone else know how I feel. and dont come to me with that overbite garbage, because atleast with an overbite you can still smile on pictures, and with an overbite your teeth are suppose to be that way, they are just to over. People always tell me that its not noticeable or that its better than an overbite, but its not.

And my mom doesnt even care about it. I didnt even smile on my graduation pictures in May because my underbite. But everyone around me seems to not have this problem, i feel like the only one who got stuck with all these stupid mouth problems.

I'm sorry to hear how unhappy you are about your mouth problems. I don't know what that must be like, but I believe an underbite can be treated with corrective surgery, which might be available on the NHS/Health Insurance is it is making your depressed about your appearance and affecting your sleep and/or day-to-day life. Perhaps you could look into that.

hi Soledad,

I'm sorry to hear that the underbite has influenced you in everyday life, including self confident. I was going to suggest you to see a orthodontist, but your mum doesn't care about it :(

Guess there's nothing much you can do at the moment to change the underbite, but maybe when you have a job in the future, you can save up and see an orthodontics.

As an Aspie, I'm not sure how to make you feel better. I don't know how severe your underbite is. As a dental student, I have seen people with underbite/overbite who are afraid of smiling, but there are also people with underbite/overbite who would smile and laugh freely... You might think that exposing your teeth is ugly, but "smile" is the most powerful charm in the world. Forget about underbite for a moment, it is a reality that you cannot change at the moment, and smile/laugh freely before you forget how to do it.

its a bit like being an Aspie. We are Aspies, and we cannot change that. Forget about it for a moment, walk out of the door, and talk to people. It does not matter how awkward it is, I believe it's better than locking ourselves in the nutshell forever.

The patient with underbite/overbite, the one who laugh freely, although exposing their underbite/overbite, surprisingly, looks happier and hence more attractive, than the one who try to hide it.

I hope I can help you more than this. I don't have underbite myself, but I do know a dentist who has underbite and hated it when he was a kid..now.. he's like " don't want to change it coz the prof in uni said it makes guys look hotter"..

let me know what do you think and feel free to ask any questions :)

We saw the orthodontist two weeks ago. I have a sever class 3 and anterior cross bite. They are trying to avoid surgery and most likely I wont need it since it's not as bad as most peoples. I dont think it's severe, My teeth touch everywhere in my mouth. I will need braces though and there is so much maneuvering to do. I met a girl with a far worse underbite than me, and she didnt like smiling, she was cute, I even gave her a foot massage on occasions. But for me I dont like smiling either, and I hate always being the only one with Asperger's and an underbite it's so annoying. I'm sick of being so different. and its very uncomfortable too. I can fake smile, and I also do smile and laugh, I just dont smile with my teeth on pictures or I dont bite down when I smile. Even if a girl thinks it's hot, I'm still gonna change it because girl's and their opinions of me arent that important to me.

The treatment plan costs 6000 dollars in all. And my insurance only pays 1000-1500 and Im still waiting on my dads insurance to see if Im on it yet. also I have applied for disability benefits and had an interview with the disability lady today. My mom doesnt care because its hard for her to understand because she doesnt have one. And I have to pay 200 a month for treatment. Thats cheap, but I just dont have the money yet. I also have a chipped front tooth from the underbite along with a crooked tooth due to the underbite and I bite my tongue when I sleep and I also have a crossbite.

Thanks for helping, at least now I know there are more people who have an underbite like I
