This is an exchange that happened on Facebook this week:

Me: "I AM AUTISTIC AND I AM PROUD, GOD DAMN IT. haters can suck it."

My "friend" : "Without the test, it is just speculation! Test or it didn't happen! I doubt people are actually 'hating' on your speculated autism just as there is no actual ground to be 'proud' of it. I have a couple family members with it and I'm surprised... that some people can actually caps lock being proud of having an affliction that is completely hindering the lives of others."

Well, I was planning on becoming a medical researcher so that I could use my scientific brain to HELP people, but I guess I better just kill myself instead to make sure I don't "completely hinder" anyone in the future. Seriously, what does he want me to do (other than get tested, apparently)? I hope I develop a vaccine that saves his kid's life one day if he ever has one.

I think he meant that autism hinders the lives of other autistics for having it rather than saying that your autism hinders other people, or that ppl with autism hinder other people. But anyway thats a pretty negative response from a 'friend'. what did you say back to him?

I'd rather not post my response
But if he really meant what you think he did, then I feel bad.
I assumed that he was saying the non-autistic members of his family were suffering as a result of the family members that were on the spectrum. But your interpretation makes sense too. See? There I go again misinterpreting other people's words.
Thank you for responding.

tell him that you didn't realize your autism was actually only a problem insofar as it is troublesome for other people.
and then tell him to go to hell.

We're not super close or anything, more like acquaintances that went to the same high school. But I should probably apologize.

You shoulda explained to him that autism is a spectrum and that you can be anywhere from the high functioning end to the lower which is why you dont appear to be autistic to him. but yeah the way he phrased his words could be misinterpreted, its really your fault
