I have a very thin skin, and people pierce it constantly with their eyes. Expectation, disappointment, irritation....jab jab jab. I don't know how to shield from their attacks, or how to parry those thrusts carving my inside.

After many eternities have circled, I find a moment's peace. I see my boy's sweet sleep, and feel his frank peck on my cheek from earlier. I want to encase it--more finite and fleeting than anything I can grasp.
This post has little story, but I feel better for sharing. Thanks.

It's quite poetic in nature. Me? I would have arranged it thusly.

I have a very thin skin,
and people pierce it constantly with their eyes.
Expectation, disappointment, irritation....jab jab jab.
I don't know how to shield from their attacks,
or how to parry those thrusts carving my inside.

:) I like that. I have a hard time translating the internal externally sometimes. It's never spelled out, but shaded in chalk dust and metaphor. I have to capture the corresponding words, but the intent is apparent I hope..

Going to sleep now, but thank you both for the poetry and introspection. :D

Here's one approach, along the lines of overcoming having a weak defense by having a good offense. Rome used it 2000+ years ago to defeat the pesky Hannibal.

Become more aware of other peoples foilbles and defects. In any interactions that are unpleasent, focus on that aspect. Not to attack, but to understand and realize they are just acting out, being bullyish, childish, selfish, etc, etc, etc.

You know you are OK, and they are just being stupid. See it for what it is, children yelling and arguing in the playroom. Get above it perspective-wise. You may find you even pity them. Don't let them in on what you are doing. Just be detached and diffuse it as best you can by being a neutral adult.
