An upstanding citizen called the cops on me; now I have to move my van within two days (which is impossible because it doesn't run and I can't have it towed) or it will be towed by the city. So instead of illegally living in it, I will be illegally living on the streets, and will lose all of my stuff.

Money could fix the technical details, but nothing can make up for having to live in a world with people who call the cops on a homeless person for no reason. Especially when half the city is violating the exact same parking ordinance.

I can sympathize and relate to your problems. I was homeless in NY, Rhode Island, L.A. and Nashville.

In L.A, during the day, I slept in my car in a park in Los Feliz. At night I slept in the parking lot of the West Hollywood Public Library.

Nashville was probably the best because they let me sleep in my car in a Walmart parking lot. Hopefully once you become mobile again you can relocate to a Walmart.

I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry that you have to be homeless. I don't know what you should do.

Red, I'm sorry that you had to be homeless in LA especially. I know how homeless people are treated in LA (Los Feliz in particular, but WeHo as well) and it's not respectful of the situation.

I am sorry to hear that. Unless the person specifically knew you, I dunno if I could ascribe malice. Maybe they thought you were a drug dealer or something.

Here is some information on help in the Los Angeles area

do you have AAA or know someone who does? You can get it moved for free if you find a friend with triple A

Sorry about your situation. Been there. Spent a month at a Salvation Army shelter once. Then spent 3 months "house sitting" a relative's decrepit (should have been condemned) fixer upper investment property. My roommates at the fixer upper were all manner of bugs, and mice. The window screens were very holey, and there were holes in the floors and walls which allowed entrance for the mice.

Suggestions:

1. Contact the local state assistance office to see if they can help you find a place to live or get your wheels in motion.

2. Contact local charity groups, including local houses of worship, to see if they or any of their members can help you out with a place to stay or help in getting your van fixed, or at least towed to some place where it can stay for a while, perhaps an RV park.

Good luck! :D
