Limpet people

Some people are limpets. They just want to get stuck on another person and not let go.

I am the opposite. Whenever someone wants to get too close, let alone show signs of possible limpeting tendencies, I just want to scream and run in the opposite direction.

It's exhausting constantly keeping people away, why can't people respect other people's boundaries without other people having to go out of their own way to stop them. I just feel violated when someone wants to be close without me ever giving permission or indicating that I want the same thing.

Is there some sort of special way of stopping this from happening?

Just say you want space.

I avoid contact and keep conversation to a minimum. I am also an angry-looking, burly black guy, so that helps keep people away. I don't make phone calls or visits. People get the hint.

I had a couple of cases where girlfriends couldn't let go. I changed my phone number for one. The other one, I ignored until one of her friends told me to come straight with her. Once I told her it was over, she left me alone. I guess she wanted closure. Maybe it depends on the person?

I have been really clingy too. Sometimes you have to be mean, blunt, rude. The thing that worked the best on me was actually having the girl of my dreams reciprocate my feelings. I felt like garbage (like I didn't deserve her) so I pushed her away.

no, it's not what people do so much as how they are. It's their energy that's problematic, it;s like they have invisible suckers that drill into you and suck life force out - anyway that's what it feels like. Of course, if they are just standing near you not saying much, it's difficult to deal with them harshly. Oh, but I am just sitting here, minding my business, they could say, all the while draining you of energy and laughing about it.
