Salad's fiance has also been through war in Syria so she will understand PTSD.

Not necessarily - she could have PTSD without understanding PTSD.

Best wishes to both of them.

It doesn't matter if she has it or not. She would know people already with PTSD (perhaps her own family) so its unlikely to be shock.

Fiancee is currently changing and we will be out hiking again very shortly. In the meantime if anyone here on WP has suggestions for how I should draft my letter explaining to her what I'm dealing with please do share so that when I come back at night to my hotel and check WP I'll have some ideas on how to draft my letter

Have some positive stuff in the letter about her etc so it’s not all sad. Without going over board

I confronted her today and told her everything, and lo and behold magz was right: somehow magically despite my best efforts to conceal and not feel she knew everything I was hiding. Sigh. Surely I'm losing my edge if I've become that easy to read.

She then smiled and laughed and told me "it's ok, you don't have to act tough around me". So much for being able to hide things.....

That's wonderful news! Hopefully, from henceforth, you and she will both feel comfortable being honest with each other -- which, in my opinion, is absolutely essential to a strong relationship.

I'm so glad for you. That's a very promising sign she loves you no matter what and will be there for you just as much as you for her.

It’s great that you told her, and that it turned out not to be a confrontation…..instead, it was a catharsis for both of you.

I hope you enjoyed your hike.

That was such a lovely response on her part! You are a lucky man.
