I always felt you were one of the "in-crowd" (not that it matters or should matter). I think you tend to see yourself in a light that is different from how many people on here view you. While you may think you were just compensating for a perceived failed "real life" by getting into those high-IQ societies, for instance, I think you're underestimating the fact that some of your mental skills really *are* admirable and that this is a positive thing about you. Most of the normal folks just have the benefit of being mediocre in everything, anyway.

I can accept that some/much of it could be internally generated; a mix of low self esteem and insecurity.

I've always been quite asocial. That's inborn, but has also been affected by things like severe social anxiety/periodic failed attempts at F2F socialising with others. The social hierarchy in the autistic world is little different than that of the NT world. There are those that are very popular, and those, like myself, who are social rejects.
I thought I'd fit in better ,at least online, with other autistic people. That's not the case.

Perhaps it's par for the course with ASD + schizophrenia.

I don't know you well, but I really do relate with everything you are saying. I often feel like an alien even amongst my autistic friends. *sending virtual hugs your way--if you would like them*

It might be worth starting a topic to reach out to others with similar diagnoses?

I have a long list of diagnoses, but schizophrenia is not among those.
I have ASD, ADHD, OCD (with intrusive thoughts), C-PTSD, GAD, PMDD, AvPD, RSD, etc.

Judging by the number of replies, and the content of them, very few have ASD+ schizophrenia/schizoaffective.

^^^thank you Firemonkey, for that informative link. there was another link here on WP a while back, about "schizotypal autism" that seems along similar lines. that resonated with me, as did this link of yours. :study:

I come a little late to this conversation, but I wanted to tell you, firemonkey, that I have always liked you and read your posts with interest (except during those intervals when I wasn't participating here at all). You have always struck me as a kind person who hurts no one, which is far more than some people can say.

I'm autistic... But also asocial.
Yet no schizophrenia, no schizoaffective nor schizoid personality disorder.

Even if I do seem to have strong schizoid traits, professional opinion says no I don't have it.

... Also I didn't go through the same circumstances. Around social rejection I mean.
Also other emotional related stuff on that -- feeling rejected to begin with.

I don't know if it's cultural or luck.
Cultural I meant more social than your average NT culture.

Luck I meant, being internally asocial -- almost never felt loneliness (almost) or being isolated, because there's no real social thirst to quell in the first place.

... Except boredom. It might be only social 'drive' I got. Added that I'm also not a real introvert.

But in all seriousness...
A good amount of people in this forum feels the same.

They all feel they don't fit in a space where they thought they would -- namely an autism forum.
All don't feel like they don't resonate with another because of some perceived cliche. All thought they got this unique set of circumstances that no one understands -- cause it IS true. :o

Heck, the same can be said with killing threads or derailing topics or feeling irrelevant cause they were not quoted/mentioned/etc. assumed no one reads their posts...

Thank you. I do my best to be kind, but my poor social skills can p*** people off.
