Probably best not to even look at places or ads for places that you Know you can't afford. Just going to be frustrating when you find something ideal but there's no way you can get any other money to pay for it or have the rent lowered.

Although, maybe you Can get some other money from housing subsidies - I have no idea how your "section 8," program works. If you don't know you should find out. What if you qualify for some government agency to pay a portion of your rent and then you Can shop for a more expensive place ?

Ya, no kidding. Average price for a 1 bedroom apartment In the city (Vancouver) is over $3k/mo now. Even $2k is nuts - that's ~100% of what someone's making at $18/hr. $3k is 150% of their full time income.

Nothing on that website says they're a government agency or work with the government housing agency. It might be some sort of scam website. Hard to say.

Here is the federal website:

https://www.hud.gov/states/california/renting

Here is the state website:

https://www.hcd.ca.gov/grants-and-fundi ... /how-apply

Here's info on another federal site:

https://www.benefits.gov/benefit/710

ONLY contact people to apply for government programs via government websites/offices. Others might be scams. Or Maybe that other site lists rental properties that landlords will rent to people with section 8 funding - I don't know... but I would very wary of using some random website to apply for government benefits. Go through official channels only so no one can steal your identity or banking information.

My sister found a couple of sites

https://selfhelp.courts.ca.gov/places-f ... impairment

https://momentum4all.org/independent-living-apartments/

I don’t understand them, she wants me to call each apartment thinking I can handle it. I HATE making phone calls, I get very confused with the voice machines or auto voice, whatever, they talk too fast for me, if I talk to a live person, they is a chance I won’t understand & keep saying ‘can you repeat your question’ my phone doesn’t work too good, the last time I made a call, the call dropped twice.

Thank You for helping.

The first one is a California Courts website that lists some government resources for people with disabilities. They mention people being able to get help through "Regional Centers," but it doesn't say what kind of regional centre where?? there's no list of them or link for more information. They say IF you get help through a regional centre you can request specific types of help.

The next part of the first website (Supported Living Services) sounds like the kind of help you need. They can connect you with someone that can help with finding a place and moving etc. Buuuut at the bottom of the section there's a link to another page "about SLS," and when you click it it's a dead link!! So can't see their info or contact info.

I did a google search to try and find another website for them but it's the same link and it's down right now so no idea what their info is or their phone number or anything.

The second website is a company that owns a bunch of low priced housing for people on section 8 benefits. There's a link to "download HUD application," so you can download the forms you need to fill out to apply for housing benefits, and then there's a link to email the company and inquire about apartments for rent at any of the locations they own. Someone needs to help you fill out the government benefits application (download HUD application) and then contact that landlord and find out if they have a suitable apartment for rent.
