Check out the historic Mount Washington Cog Railway in New Hampshire. It still operates. It opened around the 1860s. Mount Washington is the 8th deadliest mountain in the world. My wife and I took the cog railway in 1995 up Mount Washington. It was a lot of fun.

vids of trains in action .. love the veiws of the longer track runs , But just watching these marvels of modern metal, Just going by is almost hypnotic to me sometimes.
