It's because the internet wasn't around when words were originated so instead of making up new words for internet things they just take the most random existing words possible.

I think "cookies" is the funniest one.

Troll is misunderstood. It doesn’t mean the creature who lives under a bridge. It means to troll, the way a fishing boat trolls for fish. Trolling is posting something strange or controversial, hoping people will take the bait and post a reaction the troll (or more accuratly the troller) will find amusing.

I recently trolled youtube. The video was a synopsis of a movie with a very strange and improbable plot. I posted "This sort of thing happens more often than you might think".
To which someone replied "What the hell is that supposed to mean?". Thus my troll was successful.
