/\I’m in the Bible Belt. There are places where you can drive a hundred miles and not see a liquor store. It used to be an hour an a half drive from here to get good liquor or quality beer and wine. You could buy bootleg Busch locally for five dollars a six pack or cheap liquor. Some real Moonshine still around.

That's another reason to drink less.. alcohol is VERY expensive here.

I do have quite a supply at home that if I'm not particular about what I have to drink I could go for months/longer without buying anything new. Way Longer if I really cut down and have a few drinks/week instead of 2-3/day.

And if I do drink regularly, at least I'm lucky that literally one of the cheapest things in the entire liquor store is actually quite enjoyable whiskey to drink - tastes as good or better than bottles twice the price.

But overall not so great for health, diet, productivity/performance, Or the wallet.

/\Nope.You can’t even have booze delivered by mail. There is a loophole, if you are visiting California ,you can set up an account to have wine delivered from a winery.I didn’t know about this when visiting my daughter.I would have set that up and had it delivered by fedex or UPS.

I dunno if walmart sells alcohol anywhere in the USA or Canada ?? but she lives in a dry county, so there are No alcohol retailers in that enter region of her state, so, no.. there is no pick up or delivery. People have to travel to another part of the state to buy alcohol.

Also, retail and delivery laws vary by state/province. (and even county) It's only in the last few years that wine and cider are available at select larger supermarket grocery stores in BC, and it was pretty much only during covid when delivery services started up and were licensed. Before that you could pay a taxi driver to deliver alcohol, or after hours you can call a black market business run by the Hell's Angels and pay a super premium to get bottles/beers delivered to a party 24/7 but it's like 2-3x+ liquor store prices. Now there are some licensed above board delivery services and liquor stores and craft breweries/distilleries that deliver, but that's super recent. Plus we have government owned liquor stores and a lot more private licensed ones now, and they sell different products and tend to have different opening hours - private stores are allowed to stay open later until 11pm. etc.

Every jurisdiction has dramatically different laws about alcohol sales/transport, prices & taxes etc. Take a look at a map and see how large Canada and the USA are compared to the UK or European countries and you'll realize why there isn't a one-size-fits-all set of regulations that works for every part of the population.

Interesting. Never heard of anyone buying alcohol at walmart. They're not allowed to sell it here.

But then there's retailers like Costco that have their own Kirkland Signature branded vodka/whiskey etc available for sale in the USA and in Alberta, but it's illegal here in BC so no alcohol for sale at Costco here. I just know about it because of people buying super cheap alcohol at Costco in Alberta and the USA and bringing it back when they have the opportunity.

Another obscure law: It's illegal to transport alcohol between Canadian Provinces. But I don't know of anyone ever that's been busted/fined for it - everyone who spends some time in Alberta and drinks will hit up a liquor store and bring some cheep booze back. And wineries will sell online and ship across Provinces. I think it's just one of those old laws still on the books that isn't really enforced But maybe they leave it there just in case someone goes and brings a truckload for resale then they'll get upset that they're not getting all their taxes etc.

You can get beer and wine at Walmart if the county is wet.No hard liquor here. They will bring it out to your car if you do pickup but they won’t send it FedEx.

Afternoon all. On the Ciroc french vodka and slimline tonic today. Will have a few cans of Magners cider later. (Have a few cases left before I stop drinking it for good).

If I were in your position I'd be wanting to vote out the clowns that run the state. You should be able to have a few drinks as a responsible adult.

Slightly off topic but they might try this with alcohol: The UK Tories have said the age of buying cigarettes is to rise by 1 year per year. Seems nuts to me that will end up with 30 year olds being asked for ID.

Better to just increase the tax on them more to cover the costs to the NHS. (which some people say it does already). Same with alcohol, set the age to 18+ and set the tax/duty to cover any costs to the NHS. Same with food that causes obesity and diabetes, set the tax to a level that covers the costs to the NHS.

The cashiers know it's stupid. These chains have inspectors come through pretending to be customers and cashiers will get in trouble if they aren't carding.

On the Absolut swedish vodka and slimline tonic today. Much less sugary than Magners cider.
