I'm glad I didn't sleep in a tree last night
I would have frozen my bits off

There's a sycamore tree growing in my back garden. If I don't keep a careful eye on the situation, it could take over.

I'd feel a bit heartless doing that. I've done it a couple of times when they've become established next to the walls of the house, as the roots could cause problems with the foundations, but this one's in the middle of the garden. I chop it down to about two or three feet high every winter, but it then starts growing uncontrollably at around this time. I never had this issue for years, but recently these things have started appearing quite regularly.

Do you think there's any danger of it lifting the house up

Probably not, but it could easily damage the water and sewage pipes which run under the back garden. That would cause real problems and would probably cost a fortune to fix.

I had to give up Thorntons Chocolate Covered Toffee. My teeth just won't take it anymore.
