If you didn't notice the OP, you certainly wouldn't of known I asked that question.

Haha, very true! Must just be me that nobody notices :P

It depends, I'm certainly hesitant about it. I always search through at least 40 pages (if there are that many) of topics to make sure no one has made a similar topic. I'd much rather revive an old thread than make a new, identical one.

A little. I search the same topis, then I ask myself if it's good idea and then I create. Or not.

Yes. Unless it's something straightforward like a news link.

It takes me that long just to post a reply sometimes, if the reply is more than a few sentences. To post a new topic takes me well over an hour. It's really annoying. I wish I didn't have to be so perfect all the time and constantly edit myself. Even this reply has taken me 8 minutes so far and I'm still hitting "preview" and reading it over and over again, changing tiny details.

Great perfectionists think alike....its why its so much easier on a message board than in real life or on a chat. Love email and message boards for just these reasons :) !

I'm not typically shy about making new topics, although I can be so slightly sometimes, if I think I won't be understood at all. I'm not really too perfectionistic about doing so either. I figure out what I want to say in my head at least enough to make the thread quickly before I actually end up deciding that it's a good idea, which can take anywhere from 3 seconds to 3 days, depending on what it is. Then, if there are errors in my grammar I edit them out if/when I notice them, and if there are errors in my logic I apologize and possibly try to explain myself better if I think the idea I had in mind still has some validity.

It feels more natural to me to put everything out there on the fly I think, and I'd get too bored to even bother ever posting in forums if I felt the need to carefully scan over my post and hammer out all the kinks from the get-go.

As far as I know they'd get moved and on the next reply you get a not-working link, so you have to look up your topic somewhere else. But that's what happens on a different forum, so I can't guarantee it's the same here.

I try to make sure that I don't make more than 2 new topics, in a day.

I relate to this.

From the point of view of checking out what's new, I must say that it doesn't bother me one iota if it's been done before. Also I'm not as critical of others as I am of myself.

Very but most of it is due to my grammar trouble and in the fluency of written english.

It's also as hard for me to reply in a thread. I notice I've gotten more self conscious in replying to them than I use to. Most of them come off dumb or misconstrued hence the name.

As for deep discussions, my topics often come off verbose and hard to elaborate which is a reason I think most of them get little to no replies.

Not at all for me... I love to write, and it's because I hate face-to-face discussions. No fear, no inhibitions at all on forums!

I am a lot less shy here than on other communities. Less shy here, because I know lots of people will understand where I am coming from. Shy always anyway because I tend to think my topics will be perceived as stupid or something. :\

Same here. I've been on a few other forums and never got over 100 posts.

I'd rather respond to topics, than create them.

Are you guys serious? The majority is shy of creating a new topic? Why? I don't get shy here, because no one knows me. I would be very shy if someone I knew in real life went on here. But they don't. WP is my secret pastime. I am not what I seem to be on here.
I can't believe people are shy of creating new topics. :o Maybe I'm not as shy as I thought I was.
