It has to have some purpose. I mean, animals don't have emotions but they don't get as much out of life.

Are you sure animals don't have emotions? It seems as though there have been many studies done showing that certain species show emotions of caring for one another.

Hmmm, I'm tired right now, so my logic might be flawed a bit. Anywas, they probably can feel emotion but not to the extent that humans can and they cannot reason, I don't think.

I think you have confused it with reason/freewill.

I might. But emotions do affect reason. And reason affects actions. And actions affect freewill. And freewill affects emotions.

I feel that we do need emotion as human beings.

I'm guessing that humans could evolve a system where emotions are replaced by another concept that fills the role much better. I don't know, without emotions I'd probably be less confused when emotions show up, but also be a lot more dismissive of other living beings, like my cats who've died over the years and really miss. I don't know.

Its kinda weird. In a way it seems like everything would run more smoothly without emotions but then we would be mere robots with a bunch of rules programmed in (like in the movie iRobot)

I think logic vs. emotion is a false dichotomy.

That being said, OP, I can totally-empathize with the mental battles-
I"m in therapy atm (hypnosis) for a severe problem I've had for a while which has reached dangerous proportions.
I consider myself extremely analytical and empirically-minded, but when it comes to this I'm a prisoner of my emotions and fears.

Absolutely; we need emotions, good and bad, to help us grow as individuals. No pain no gain.

And not only that, but our survival is also dependent upon emotions.

Indeed.
Imagine how short the lifespans of our ancestors would be without emotions like fear. We certainly wouldn't be here today.
