Because they might not even know what gay is. I used to think being gay meant dating other guys and being with them in a relationship and choosing who you have sex with so if you wanted to be straight, you date women instead and if you're a woman, you date guys instead. But even if you're gay and still choose to live a straight life, you are still gay.

When I was a kid, I didn't fully comprehend what "gay" was: I thought gay men married gay women.

Then again, I've gotten along far better with lesbian friends than I ever have with prospective male partners, so if only there were a modicum of truth in my childhood precociousness...

I didn't even know what gay was until I was an adult. I didn't know what it meant to be gay until I was at least in 5th grade but I still didn't know what it was.

Because someone lied to them and they believe it.

They're stupid.

That is why they think people choose to be gay.

The end.

I wish that I was gay.

Time spent dealing with man/woman conflicts, are the most aggrivating and painful experiences I have ever had. Gay couples probably have all the respect and resentment issues you'd get with any relationship but at least you'd have a better idea where the other person is coming from. I tried watching gay porn once, it just didn't work. I love women...
...dammit.

Very insightful of you. That's one reason why I'm happily homosexual though I'm not in a relationship or particularly interested in having one. Also you don't really have to worry about sex/gender discrimination issues within the relationship.

Conversely, though, you can't use the excuse of "not being able to understand your partner because se is of the opposite sex".

BTW, I think most porn videos are gross and off-putting whether hetero or homo, because they are sleazy and unnatural/overdone/false. Just my opinion.

I've never liked the implication that heterosexual men can't be cheery, joyful and merry, either

people consider it a choice or not as it suits their agenda. some find it more convenient to view homosexuality in terms of something innate because it is easier to demand acceptance of a fact of nature. if, on the other hand, it is something you choose to do, then i (this is a rhetorical i) can maintain a moral preference that you not do it, because i know in my heart that it is offensive to god. god could not possibly be offended by his own will (i.e., a fact of nature), so it must be a choice. people who consider homosexuality a choice tend not to consider a person a homosexual unless they voluntarily engage in homosexual behavior such as having sex with a person of the same sex or publicly identifying themselves as homosexual. persons who are merely attracted to people of the same sex can choose to have only heterosexual relationships or abstain from sex in the face of feelings of distaste and deprivation, in which case they would not be considered gay. believing that homosexuality is a choice is simply more coherent with a perspective in which homosexuality is offensive and therefore blameworthy.
