Yes, that is a growing problem with me as well these days. My references are almost aged out of pop culture understanding. And, the younguns seem to have a warped idea of what it was like in the 50's 60's and 70's. I came along in '60, but enough of a hold over to have an understanding of the 50's.
I actually have to explain what a test pattern was and that TV started and stopped daily...no 24 hours and you were lucky to get the three mains let alone independent stations. Giant TV aerials...LOL We had a 100 foot high antennae with a rotor to aim it as you changed stations. LOL
It was different, but not as easy or 'good' as people want to make it out to be.
