yeah they are diffinately better than jandles or scuffs. They just need a bit more tread.

I was very fond of a pair of roman sandals I inherited from my grandad. I was sad the day that one of the straps broke.

that is the depressing tragedy of sandals.

I was really happy to learn that Crocs will replace the rivets for free (i think)

It stinks how for so many sandals, the difference between life and death is a tiny thin band of elastic.

yeah I hate how foot wear gets chucked out once it breaks. Its would be good if you could get some good quality footware and get it fixed rather than chuck it out.

I was big on jandles there for a while, but they would always brake, so I had an odd pairs of jandles but they still broke.

I think my problem was I wore them everywhere, I wore them when I should have been wearing hiking boots.

The sandals I wear everywhere are black "crocs"; I pulled the back thingy off as soon as I got them. I couldn't be bothered putting on shoes, tying laces, wearing socks, etcetera (less things to worry about doing).

No sole left, so I just watch where I walk when it rains (I kinda watch where I walk always).

I wear black crocs too....the "girlier" Mary Janes...which actually have two straps that don't bother me.

They have several lines of still yet even girlier crocs, but they are all too nerrow and make my feet look strange...(because I have strange looking feet, with this weird bony ballerina-dancer ridge that is all scarred up.)...long term effect of toe-walking

had a pair of red ones which dissapeared when we moved. I think about them every day and wonder where they are.

I also have a pair of old crocs, which say "Rebound" on them, and were made in Canada.

That was my first pair. I got them at a thrifty store.

I first really noticed Crocs when I was living in New Orleans as a street busker. Sitting close to the ground for hours on end, I often noticed people's shoes and the fact that so many people from different walks of life wore these weird rubber clogs.
It dawned on me that they must be pretty comfortalble if people are willing to spend hours trudging around the French Quarter in them.

That is when I decided I wanted to try a pair.

At the time, my main shoes were these paint-spattered Born slip-ons with the in-sole completely worn out.
Born Shoes are odd...you never know if they are gonna be good. When they are good, they are very very good, or they can have these weird uncomfortable ridges in them that render them useless...my theory is that it depends on where they are made. The pair i had was good...but it is no wonder that I found so many barely-worn pairs of Born shoes at the thrifty store.

I thought Crocs were odd looking....not exactly ugly....just unusual.

I think my Mary Jane's are astheticly pleasing.

I forced Flakey to get a pair of the Crocs FlipFlops...which just look like ordinary flip flops.
He actually has not walked around enough to know whether he likes them. I am hoping he will be a convert though. His beef with Crocs is that he is annoyed by the squeaking sound they make when wet.

He rejected the first pair i got for him, which I ended up selling to my bi-polar schtzotypal AS-ish ex roommate and they worked wonders for his horrible foot problems, which included foot pain and ghastly odor..not to mention the beginnings of diabetic issues.

I remember how Flakey raised such a stink when I recommended that he wear flip flops because it was always so cumbersome to find socks for him. Now, they are what he wears 90% of the time.
I hope he likes the Crocs, because his Hemp flip flops stink

i always make an annoying scene whenever I go to the store where I buy my shoes. I was quoting the Crocs marketing lines that I saw on a commercial verbatim while trying to pressure Flakey into getting some...I get such strange looks from the people who work there...

Anywhoo..the reason I am so fixated on shoes is that my feet have gotten so bad from my toe-walking that without shoes I hobble uselessly around...so comfortable supportive shoes that are not an ordeal to put on and take off..that I can wear without socks...are completely awesome

Doc Martins should be outlawed in the winter here in Canada, they are not made for ice or snow, I fractured my L5 and tail bone, in a fall 12 years ago, and when I was working as a meat cutter, I couldn't wear them in coolers, there are only good for wearing in the summer

We don't have issues with ice where I live, but...
Docs hurt my feet.
My feet end up feeling like swollen tortured sacks of meat if I wear them for too long.
I always think that this is because I have not broken them in, and I am sorely mistaken...also, they are so heavy.
I have learned my lesson...
It is not as if I ever pay full price for the Docs I have...I find them fairly frequently at the thrifty store...barely worn for just a few bucks.
Another type of perfectly good shoe that is rendered useless by the breaking of a small band of elastic.
I don't like the boots...but I like the buckled mary-janeish clodhoppers, but the buckle always breaks...

Which reminds me of another thing about Crocs...(must get it all out of my system  )

The reason i was just able to recently get a new pair for myself and one for Flakey is that recently my parents had purchased for me a pair of Birkenstock Papillios....Either the wonky shape of my foot puts unnecessary wear and tear on the things, OR Birkenstock Papillios are crap. I think they are astheticly beautiful shoes, and I really like and can tolerate birkenstock soles...BUT....yee gads...I wore these new ones just a few times and the little metal rivet broke!! My only other pair of (real) Birkenstocks have lasted for years I can still wear them but they are treadbare...so I took these new ones back for store credit which bought two pair of crocs and a sun hat.
This was the second pair of papillios that broke with little wear..I brought the old ones with me as an example of how they keep breaking.
(my parents are crazy about buying me new shoes whenevr they have money)

I think I will avoid going to that Whole Earth for a while...I always make a scene

They kinda remind me of those hippie-types who wander about in rainbow jumpers with rainbow bags, bright pink cords and a shedload of plastic jewellery.

I'm not going to call you a bad person for wearing them but damn, they're ugly.

Although to tell you the truth, I've never much bought the whole sandals idea anyway... shoes are meant to cover/protect feet.

Yeah...but if you have weirdly shaped feet (like me), or sensory issue related to your feet (like me)...then they are great...also they do come in muted tones and non-sandal varieties.
I am not a big fan of the crazy colors, but I like my black ones..and the army green ones...
My most recent pair is peacock blue, and i immediately regretted the color choice..as they stand out garishly against all my clothes....but they will be faded out with dirt and paint splatters in no time.

anywhoo...here is the crocs website so you can see all the different styiles

www.crocs.com

Lately, due to mini-obsession, I have been e-mailing thir customer service reps.

I think I might suggest that they make "Mary Janes" with more of a utility tread.
Also..more "girly type shoes" with a more boxy shape for the astheticly interested, but wonky-footed female.
It would also be neat if they made pointy "elf-shoes"....ah...on second thought.....

OK! ANOTHER thing I like about Crocs!! !
Since they are mostly made out of all-one-material, they are recycleable AND...if you take the worn-out ones to a recycling center they will render them into new shoes that they will donate to people in need...like in Haiti and whatnots....(i did write to them and express hopes that they doll some out to Americans in poverty as well)...they probably do..I just didn't read that part...

(...And I really hope they make diabetic-friendly recycled ones too)...so many poor people out there I have known with serious foot problems and low-quality footwear...I can think of at least 3 who I know off the top of my head...)

I bet crocs are among the most recyclable shoes around.

They do make those sandals that eventually bio-degrade...but for the most part, the vast majority of shoes that are made are destined for the landfill, unless they are lucky enough to be renedered into some kind of strange conceptual art piece or something.

I have a black and a brown pair...also another pair of lined "fakes" in this deep pink color. I've always thought they were a little ugly...but after trying them... they are so comfortable I don't care...I can go out in the garden get them dirty and just hose them off and they look like they did before I started. They are my favorites along with my pair of Teva's.

As much as I like crocs, I will not adorn them with the silly plastic charms...unless they come up with either a ukulele or a sock monkey one.

My mother has 3 pairs of crocs and is always telling me to get a pair. However, I tried a pair of hers on once and in all honesty, they feel so weird on the soles of my feet and for some odd reason make my legs feel weightless...it's just too strange.

I don't think i'll be buying a pair.
