I once found some kind of larvae inside a box of tea bags, purchased at an Asian market. They didn't use air conditioning, and it always smelt potent in there.

I remember finding an earwig in the lettuce I was about to eat once. I can't recall what happened to it though. I'd completely forgotten about this event until now.

I'm TERRIFIED of bugs and insects. I read a few posts in this thread and I can't read the rest of it, sorry. I think I'm going to inspect every little thing I eat now and I will not longer be eating somethings.

There's a difference between being afraid of bugs in your food and being disgusted because bugs are in your food right? Because it's disgusting to me but it doesn't scare me.

Actually, it scares me that I'm disgusted by them. My mother just says: "They're only proteins" and then laughs her head off...

I just went to the bathroom, and there was a slater crawling amongst the razors. Fortunately, I don't keep edibles there, so there's little chance of finding her in my cereal.

I'm also pretty surprised at how few people think insects are cool.

To the poster about the sunflower seeds, thanks for the tip...I just gagged thinking that was possibly a bug in the sunflower seeds that tasted a bit off...yuk! :(

I once went to Subway, a BRAND NEW SUBWAY at that, and when I took a bite out of my sandwhich a COCKROACH crawled out between the sliced of bread! Yes, you can imagine what happened next...

My neighbors use to laugh at me because twice I found maggots in my cupboards and I threw out almost every single food item that was there...even the cans after being washed by hand with soap and hot water made me gag...(we lived in the tropics with no central air and lots of humidity and it didn't take long for food to spoil).

And yes, everyone thinks I am a snob because I can't see anything wrong in my food without running for the restroom...I look at my food very carefully when I eat and everyone thinks I am just a snob...but then again, I have found a fly in some banana soup, a cockroach in chinese food, hairs in hamburgers, sandwhiches, pancakes, etc...oh, the list goes on and on and on...YUK! So I also don't do buffets because I've found so many nasty things in them...

Glad to know I'm not the only one with this...everyone else I know seems to just ignore stuff...

Buggylicious. Good neologism; would use again.

Makes me want some crawfish etouffe.

Ever suck the heads? I draw the line there. Or the crab "mustard" (brains, guts, whatever it is.) :eew:

Nope, that's new to me. What's it taste like?
Wait, isn't the "mustard" actually crab feces still inside the crab? That is what somebody actually told me it was... 8O :eew:

I think its is the feces - there's so much of it - too much for brains.

No I haven't tried either one! :eew:

i have always wanted to sample what a fig tastes like.
apparrently some wise old fellows love to eat figs, and they say figs are the fruit of the gods.
figs are the reward when one reaches an idyllic oasis after many parched weeks traversing the desert.

but figs only become figs because a wasp crawled into them and laid it's eggs and then died inside the fig. god knows about the maggots from those eggs, and where they go. anyway, i can not ever know what a fig tastes like due to the disgusting method of pollination.

OMG!! ! I didn't know that! But I always recall the urban legends about Fig Newtons having high protein content because of the bugs that got in during manufacturing. I haven't eaten a Fig Newton since I was a little kid.

So - the urban legend was half right but it sounds as if the buggies got in there way before the fig found its way to the Fig Newton plant.

The are much less easy to identify now...all the high tech stuff, no wires.
If Big Brother wants to listen...all he is going to get is a lot of burping and swearing.

Ha ha!! ! I love it when I have to use my brain! Took a minute - but it was worth it!

Not gonna stop me from eatin' figs. They taste too good. I'm not entirely sure about how true that is, I'm going to need to look it up, but apparently wasp larvae are not uncommon to find in figs.

On the other hand, when it comes to repulsively insectastic food, >>>Maggot Cheese<<< is as good as it gets.

Insectastic. Good one.

That is by far the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. Mainly, because you wouldn't expect that from an Italian cheese.

I guess it would go with a nice Tuscan Sangiovese? (I'm not as familiar with the wines of Southern Italy)

if i had a pot of nectar from heaven that would ensure eternal life, and there was a dead bug in it, then i would not experience eternal life.
a dead mosquito can stand between me and eternity.

I think the bugs are only found in the dried figs. I have access to a fresh fig tree, and not only are they delicious fresh, they have no bugs in them, that I have seen.
