The question for Chadders is: if he gets a computer with the bloody mess on it, can he wipe the hard drive and install Linux?? Or does Microsquish block wiping the hard drive ??

A software vendor wouldn't be able to block formatting the hard drive. The only thing that would have any power over that is the BIOS, but when you boot Linux it basically takes over for the BIOS. No BIOS would completely cut off that kind of administrative functionality anyway.

As long as you're able to boot to something that isn't the hard drive (CD, floppy, network, USB stick, whatever) you can install Linux.

Moreover, you could put the drive in another system and wipe it there. You'd have to usurp the drive's BIOS to lock out access.

Bought Vista Home Premium on the 30th (launch day) for work. (they'll reimburse me eventually!)

I am unimpressed.. With a GB of RAM, and a 64-bit CPU, the word "glacial" comes to mind for performance. Maybe I'll reformat and do a clean install for a change...

I'm not too excited about it at this point. While I consider myself a "PC person," it just seems like Microsoft conspicuously copied all of Apple's ideas. I'll probably get it when it becomes more common.

They didn't just copy apple, they copied the Linux community too.

Same thing happened with the Xbox 360... most of the new features they added where things that people did when modifying their original xboxes.

Don't know if Microsoft has ever done anything original. The only thing they can do well is marketing.

Only someone who hasn't played a 360 would say that

I've played a 360, and I would say that.

Installed it today, and I'm very impressed. I have the business edition and it runs spectacularly! It's a complete myth that you need a high spec PC to run it. My hardware is pretty dated, Athlon 64 3000+ with 256mb Radeon 9550 and 1gb of RAM. Vista actually runs faster than XP! No BS!! Gaming performance is A LOT better as well... Installation was a breeze too. Three hours from start to finish, and everything was just as I left it. Also the antialiasing is just awesome, everything is a hell of a lot clearer, it's absolutely seamless. If you can, I highly recommend getting this. I'm reeeeally happy!

I'm going to install Office 2007 tomorrow...

I wouldn't call an Athlon 64 and 1 GB of RAM dated. I just upgraded a couple months ago and purchased the same processor you're using, iddqd.

I'm sticking with XP for now. Maybe I'll get Vista with my next PC, though.
