I have a Seattle obsession. But I'll compromise and meet you in Wenatchee, if you're buying the coffee.

And I think it's Spo-KAN, yes?

Oh, and, PS.....google 'Bob Rivers', go to the Twisted Tunes Vault A-Z and look under S for their song 'Spokane' (I'm too new here for WP to let me post the link). Enjoy!

I noticed, but thought it was only part of your Benny&Joon obsession.

I do live in Spokane. Want me to take a picture of the diner seat that had the privilege of hosting Johnny Depp's backside?

I've noticed it a while back. The thing that I like about WrongPlanet, is that we can all talk easily about our obsessions, without being told to shut up.

I thought the name came from the French Canadian trappers, but it's Salish (Native Am):

Hmmm....I checked it out and the name in Npoqinishan (Spokane Salish) comes out as Stlxetkw....not sure how they got 'Spokane' out of that!

(Fatal to mention place name origins in that part of the world to me. I've still never gotten over how shocked the girl in Elliott Bay Books was at someone actually wanting to buy a Dxwlesucid dictionary. )

I was aware of the Spokane obsession. One
of my interests is names and how they came
about,so that includes the usernames of my
WP contemporaries. My research on the name Spokane itself says it is said to derive from Salish Spo-kan-ee= sun, possibly referring originally to a chief then the river near his tribe and then the city.
I've got a bit of a Seattle obsession myself,well
it's really a Frasier obsession and I'm struggling at the moment as my TV no longer
gets the Paramount channel due to a fault.

It is because of Benny & Joon. If it weren't for that movie, I would have never gotten into that city. If they filmed it in seatlle instead, I would have been obsessed with the city. That was where the movie script origionally took place.

I have been to the diner but what the heck, show me the picture. :D

I was told to shut up about it over at I2 (not literally) so I stopped because I was starting to get crap for it. Yes even aspies can act like NTs. At least i don't turn into a jerk over someone's obsession about something. There was a member here who got crap on here for his obsessions about straps so he stopped talking about them so much. He still comes here.

Spokane means "Children of the sun." It is an Indian name I believe.
