What's wrong with psychologists?

- Some of them have a slow, monotone voice.
- Many of them seem incredibly bored.
- They seem to show lower empathy for their patients than the patients own friends/family.

I find your belief/obsession over psychologists being bad a bit strange.

They can be very patronizing.

If I had to guess its getting into a profession based on a sincere desire to change the world somehow and realizing how hard it is to break the self-destructive behavior patterns of their patients. Being jaded, in other words.

They are usually more screwed up than the people they serve. My mom worked with psychologists as a consultant and she said they have alot of personal issues they try to resolve through other people. Most psychologist with the exception of one or two had this little green man thing going on where you will be talking with them and all the sudden something you say...they nut up for a milisecond (sometimes longer) then they readjust themselves like nothing happened.

I'm not so sure about psychologists (I never got to see an NHS one and the ones here aren't like that) but all of my adult psychiatrists were like that. Monotonous, appeared more interested in their computer/notebook etc. The only thing about psychologists is that they spend loads of time testing you. ugh I am too tired for more tests!

Re: psychologists,I've had good ones and bad ones. I think the good ones know how to ask the right questions to help you realize something you didn't realize before. By questions I don't mean " How does that make you feel?". You know there's that little book called "Questions". Therapy was beneficial but in a way that I would think would be beneficial for anybody. It never changed me fundamentally.

I've been in therapy long enough to know what they are going to say before they say it. They hate it when you tell them that. I know someone with one of those magic eight ball toys but it's a therapy ball and the answers that come up are things like:

How do you feel about that?
Who am I speaking to now?
Let's go with that.
You're in denial
Talk about your mother
Go to your happy place
