If I was able to drive, I would drive the most generic looking car possible to avoid attention.

My dad said the worst thing about the 65 Mustang he used to dive was everyone staring at it/him all the time and people constantly asking him questions like "what year is that?, is that a 65?, is it all original?, how much will you sell it to me for?" etc.

if maintenance was not an issue, i would probably snatch up one of these right this instant. they're actually rather common around here, too, seems to be the go-to car for old rich people in these parts.

but not for long, those repairs will drain your bank account like any moneypit. mechanic's special. however, they sure ride well over the worst pockmarked wavy rutted roads, they will give a Mercedes a run for their money in that respect.

i'd like just to ride in one, their burled wood trim is some of the most beautiful i've seen in any car that isn't a rolls or bentley.

back in those days they were under ford ownership, don't know how those stack up to the older, independently owned jags, or the newer tata owned jags with respect to durability.

from what I read, ford forced jag to up their game and the later ford years were statistically [at least] more reliable. also there were English ford products that were gussied up and had jaguar nameplates slapped on them. the X series was one such. they had a great suspension which at least was up to the jaguar level.

Being a rally fan I tend to base my car purchases on whatever is currently doing well in rally. Admittedly my Ford Fiesta ST2 isn't in quite the same league as this Fiesta which went on to win the World Rally Championship manufacturers title in 2017. The road in the pic is one of my local roads in the Lake District National Park in northern England.

they're not of my particular car as i haven't taken it home yet (needs to have the timing belt/water pump done), but my new-to-me 1999 lexus ls400 looks just like this.






i can dig the grey interior but i find silver to be a dull exterior color, and when i manage to gather enough non-college spending money i'm having it painted a deep burgundy and the windows tinted.

if I were to get one, i'd like a bronze exterior and a cream colored velour interior with dark walnut paneling. I don't care for leather. also no sunroof. no silly harsh-riding low-profile rubber, either, or lowered suspension.

velour is lovely. the 1987-1991 camrys had velour seats as an option (mine had regular cloth) and when i saw a near-mint junked car with the velour in my interior color, i really considered taking the back seat out and replacing mine with that one (AFTER a deep clean of course), as it came with a center armrest too.

but i couldn't justify the price.

in any case congrats on being able to swing the car of my dreams.
