Ok, so in another thread I mentioned before that I find schoolwork boring and so my lack of productivity may not be because of internet distraction but now, I'm starting to think that it is part of the problem.

I mean who am I kidding...its the internet!! ! A place where you can search for anything, anytime, watch anything, read about anything, do anything...

I often like to read about certain things and I feel like I HAVE to read it within the next few minutes or something. If I think of an idea of something to do, I cannot concentrate on my schoolwork. I feel like I must do whatever I thought of first, and then do my schoolwork. So I read about that interesting topic, and now I think of another thing to do and can never concentrate on my schoolwork.

Anyone else find the internet distracting? Any tips on how to concentrate?

The Internet is distracting me, right now. I'm supposed to have breakfast, and get ready to go to Stepping Stones. Yet, I'm on WP, and YouTube. I have The Kinks in my ears, and avatars in my eyes.

yes the internet is distracting but if there would be no internet there would be television, if there would be no television there would be a cd collection a guitar a dartboard sorting stuff making lists...in short there will always be something to distract you

But the TV does not run things you like to watch anytime and another thing that makes the internet all that distracting is the fact that aside from cable fees (Mine is a flat rate in university residence), or wireless fees, it does not cost extra to read and watch other things. You don't even need to move your legs!! !! The internet is a couch potato's friend :)

I can totally relate. I'm always on my laptop, doing different things on the internet, such as Facebook, Youtube, WrongPlanet. There's pretty much nothing you can't do on the internet. I honestly don't see how any previous generation lived without the internet. It's the greatest invention of mankind, in my opinion.

Its amazing that if something better could have existed but didn't, you wouldn't complain about the lack of "coolness" of what you already have. At least thats my opinion on it.

I find the internet endlessly fascinating and distracting from other things. There's just so much information to be gathered! And so much mindless fun!

My suggestion for avoiding it, is to shut off and unplug the computer. If you need to use the computer for schoolwork, then unplug the internet connection, or temporarily disable it. Set a time when you can go back online after you've done some schoolwork, and don't cheat. If you think of something you want to look up, write it down and look it up later (easier said than done, I know). If you need the internet for schoolwork, think about if you really need the internet or if you could go to a library and use books instead. I know it seems faster to find that information on the internet, but is it really faster if you get distracted and spend all your time looking up unrelated things? I think overall, with all the distractions online, it might in fact be faster to go to a library and read books.

Hope that helps. :)

The internet is very distracting... Thats why when I do happen to do my work, I try to avoid it as soon as possible so I can at least get all of it done.

Even now I'm distracted.
