I bought a neti pot a wail ago but after I used it 1-2 times I stoped because it is abit much to take at first.
as the year went on last year I forced myself to use it because of my headaches, and sinus problums.for 6 months I have been using it regularly and I now can almost always breath through my nose, no more headaches and sinuses are mild.
when I got over the flooded feeling(you fill a pot with warm salt water, tilting your head you place the pot, designed with a spout to fit in your nose, in the top nostral and it drains out the bottom nostral) I can do it comfortably with no problums.
so If your sinuses bother you then give it a try and stick with it,the first time is the worse and it gets a lot easier

I'm glad you posted this, I was going to post about it myself soon. I recently got a sinus rinse squeeze bottle, which is similar to a neti pot but I heard it's slightly better in some ways so I went for that instead. It's definitely a weird sensation at first but I think I've got the right temperature now. I'm glad to hear that it does start to help eventually because I haven't noticed too much difference so far.

I recommend herbs. Nettle, camomile, lavender seem good for allergic responses. Helped me with animal allergies too. They can cause allergy in some folks so always be safe, yeah? /Disclaimer

I have heard before that inhaling saltwater into your sinuses- a sinus wash I think- is good for infections. I would be very nervous to try it though. Sounds painful, and any time i have accidentally snorted water or other liquids I have not enjoyed it all all!

I think that it would be neat to use one of those.

I can tell you, I was scared out of my mind when I first went to try it. Terrible memories of getting water up my nose while swimming, and I thought for sure that I would do it wrong and drown myself. Fortunately, I didn't drown and it didn't feel like all those times I got water up my nose. As long as you get the right temperature of water and the right amount of salt, it's completely painless. Even if you get it a little wrong, it's still nothing like the feelings you're thinking of (unless you use cold/hot water or forget to add the salt and do it with plain water... then it will hurt :(). I got the NeilMed Sinus Rinse and it comes with little packets of salt, and the bottle has a line that you fill the water to, so right away there is no guessing about proper amounts, it's just the temperature that you have to figure out.

I have the netti pot and the squeeze bottle version - definitely the squeeze bottle is my preference.
I also find it helps greatly when I cant breathe - it seems like it makes my nose run, which is actually better - then I can blow it, etc. and breathe.

But I am curious - how often do you do it? Do you only use it when you need to, or is it a routine?

Currently I'm using it when I first wake up and again a few hours before bed. A few times I've done it thrice in a day because the morning one wasn't sufficient enough.

This is the neti pot I have: link: nelimed

which is nice if you do not like the idea of a squeeze bottle rushing liquid up your nose - this one you just sort of pour it in, a little less aggressive.

but this is the squeeze bottle I have: link:

I have a neti-pot and it seemed to work the few time I used it, but I haven't had as much success more recently. The problem with the "gravity" version is that it doesn't work at all when I'm already congested
