They annoy me for some reason.

What, specifically, do you dislike about them?

The things that I didn't like about the cheerleaders at my high school, is that they thought that they were better than the rest of the girls, because they were of course, the prettiest. They put down everybody, that wasn't beautiful, in their eyes. The other thing about the high school cheerleaders, is that if I didn't know any better, I'd think that they were the ones, who've invented Valley talk. My sister tried to convince me to become a cheerleader, when I was in Grade 9. I didn't take her advice, because I didn't want to be associated, with that crowd.

The cheerleaders at my school weren't really like that. I was actually friends with some of the cheerleaders.

EDIT:
Plus, my half-sister was a cheerleader in high school.

I guess that each school and each neighbourhood is different. 8)

Highschools here in Canada don't have cheerleaders, so I didn't like or dislike them.

That reminds me of the Canadian teen drama Degrassi, in which the school's "cheerleading" team was called the Spirit Squad.

Our cheerleaders were mostly 'cheerful' and bubbly, but most of them were very nice too. Only one of them wasn't too nice. The one who was the best cheerer and the epitome of a cheerleader (bubbly, etc) was such a sweet, kind girl.

Ooooh mine does. Because my high school was/is brand new (when I was in grade 9 we were the first 9s EVER in it), we didn't have a cheersquad's reputation to live up to, if you know what I mean by that. Everything was brand new. So yes, a lot of 'that type' did join but there was also one girl I knew who was super smart and pretty who also joined them. And they were all friends anyway, plus the cheerleaders never sat together at lunch or anything, they all had their own friendgroups.

It was good.

This all reminds me of a cartoon from Homestarrunner.com
"I'm not really a cheerleader. I'm just a cheerleader in the way I treat other girls."

We don't have them here either.

I know the type though, and no-one in my year was really that great looking. Some still had the attitude though. This cool sophisticated girl who reminded me of a pig thought most people were benieth her.

We don't have those in the UK, but from what I see on American films, they're just the generic stupid girls that are everywhere, and they are very annoying.

I wouldn't say that. It varies, or that's what I saw. Some fit that stereotype but others didn't. For instance, our Class President who was one of the runners up for Valedictorian was a Cheerleader. And there were other girls who were barely passing idiots whose most important concern in life was how drunk they were going to get at a party on the weekend and making sure they didn't gain that extra 1/5 lb before the next dance.

I, for one, merely hated High School as a whole.
