Our dog was born in Poland. Apart from that, I see Poland much like Russia, only a bit less Russian. Hope that makes sense. As far as I know, Polish people value their families, work hard and have to make it through very cold winters.

Do you have datshas in Poland? I really like the Russian concept of datshas.

Our winters weren't cold over the course of a couple of last years, on the opposite, this evil white fluff falling from the sky in quantities this year and the year before, is something quite unexpected.

We do have datschas but they are much more rare than it is in Russia. This word is rarely used in Poland in reference to those small houses.

I went a lot of times in Poland, I speak Polish fluently, but write it painfully. I know a few Poles here in Greece, No i nawet wczoraj jadłem Gołompki.

It's spelled as gołąbki :D It means literally little pidgeons and many young kids do tend to think it's made of the meat of actual pidgeons  I don't remember if I used to believe this when I was young too.

Large country in Eastern Europe that is very magnetic (because all the poles are there.)

Bad science jokes aside, I don't really know much about the country. They seem to be the butt of some jokes on the Internet, however, and they've been quite historically unlucky in the 20th century.

I'm a bit embarrassed now... Could you please specify them? Maybe it was b/c I had some wine and didn't focus very well, usually I do pay attention how I write... Also, I rarely have someone to chat with in Polish.

Everyone I've ever met from there has been very polite and kind to me.
My great grandmother was born in Warsaw. Her name was Iulia. I think that's a beautiful name.
Easter eggs dyed with onion skins that are taken to church for a blessing...I think?
They make beautiful pottery.
That a dress from the 18th century was named after Poland because it was in three sections.
That there are certain compositions in classical music called "Polonaise".
That they are known for being tolerant of other religions.
That they score higher in math and science than the US.
Their textile traditions are very rich in technique and symbolism.
One of my favorite artists is Polish, Tamara de Lempicka.
That there is some beautiful architecture there.
That Pope John Paul II was from there.
That Pomeranians (the breed of dog) are from there.

Apparently, I like Poland. :)

Just because I am curious and this seems to fit into this topic: our dog is named Bartosh (he already had that name when we got him) and I know that it is a first name that is given to some Polish men. But I would like to now how common that name is. Is it a popular name in Poland or was it given to the dog because there rarely are people called Bartosh anymore?
