i am considering buying a full tang samurai katana and i am wondering what kind of steel to buy. i know the kinds of steel (damascus steel, high carbon steel, folded steel, spring steel and tamahagane steel) but am not sure what to get. i personally prefer folded steel because it's more traditional, but have that high carbon steel is also good. so could anybody help me?

Fly out to japan and buy one there. Those swords do rule so you want to make shure you get one that lasts a long time

Well it depends if the sword is for practical use or not. Do you want it to have a sharp and sturdy chip proof blade?

What is your price range? IMO Hanwei make the best, you should check out their range. I'm thinking of getting one from their Raptor series (for erm....home security :P And no, they're not illegal in NSW!)

There's no rule against mentioning a company's name as long you don't make an account primarily to advertise for them. Unless the rules have changed dramatically since I last checked.

I think you're going to need to save a little longer for an authentic sword.

unfortunately no, its just the swords that you want are really exspensive. :( i have seen those same swords on www.bugei.com for 300 dollars but dont know what other costs they could be incurring.
