i have a "facebook" account. (the word "facebook" is ridiculous to me. it reminds me of a book with no words, but only pictures of faces (like a police mug shot book that police let witnesses look at to point out culprits)).
why are people so concerned with "faces"?
anyway, a girl i knew from an australian AS forum urged me to create a facebook account so we could communicate in a more dynamic way than the emails we used to use to communicate.
i agreed and i created a "face book" account and i added her as my friend.
she is pretty and also has a very "hip" personality and she is in a band that has become popular, so before long, she started to gather "friends", and now she has 897 "friends" while i still only have one friend which is her.
if i was to join her in real life as a true friend, i would be swamped by the throngs of people who all "want a piece of her". they would not consider me to be a viable inclusion in their crowd and they would reject me as i reject them.
this is a shot of her interacting with her new friends.
she left me completely in the dust and i am not upset, but i do now realize that facebook is for people who like to socialize, and i was under the impression that she did not want to socialize like that because she and i had so many intense emails that seemed exclusive.
i am not a social butterfly. i am a clueless bogon moth. so she has been swept up by the world while i was swept aside by it.
i am not complaining because when i look at that picture i know that i would feel very displaced in that environment. but i thought she had some similarities to me and now i know better.

That's how they get you.
Can't you just keep conducting your relationship by the message system there? She's in a band, so probably at least 600 of those friends are just folks she hopes to market to.
I guess it's a bit disillusioning all the same.

I have a facebook I use for primarily more....stalkerish pursuits. As such I have no friends on it yet 
But I might change that if anyone here wants to friend me.
