Cat Island (Tashirojima) Was destroyed in the recent events that have been happening to Japan. Cat Island was home to thousands of stray cats. It even incorporated 51 stone monuments to honor them. The island is now completely submerged.

Poor kitties. There was also a cat at a senior care home who was killed by falling debris in the earthquake. On a lighter note, Maru, the cat well known on YouTube is alive and well!

I just asked my Japanese friend about a "cat island" in Japan and she didn't even know one existed. :lol:

On a more serious note, that's really sad. Poor cats.

Luckily, the kitties are alive, the same as their owners, it's only the buildings that got damaged

Here is a Facebook page that says the kitties and people of cat island are okay, but there is heavy damage to buildings and possible food shortages.
