There’s an excellent article from 2006 on Wired.com about flash fiction, which Wikipedia describes as “a style of fictional literature or fiction of extreme brevity.” Apparently the typical length of flash fiction is 300 to 1,000 words, but the Wired article is all about stories comprised of only six words. You can read the entire article here:
Wired 14.11: Very Short Stories
It has examples from lots of writers, and here are a few of my favorites:
Alan Moore wrote:
Machine. Unexpectedly, I’d invented a time
Richard Powers wrote:
Lie detector eyeglasses perfected: Civilization collapses.
Steven Meretzky wrote:
He read his obituary with confusion.
Steven Meretzky wrote:
Dorothy: "f**k it, I'll stay here."
And here are my humble attempts:
Morning of September 11, Superman oversleeps.
Tried to write six word story. Failed.
Your turn.
