I know it's overused to death, but is that not literally something a certain group from a certain 1949 book did????

I'm not sure, but it has actually become reality as this past week.

here's wikipedia's thought:
Big Brother is a fictional character and symbol in George Orwell's dystopian 1949 novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. He is ostensibly the leader of Oceania, a totalitarian state wherein the ruling party, Ingsoc, wields total power "for its own sake" over the inhabitants. In the society that Orwell describes, every citizen is under constant surveillance by the authorities, mainly by telescreens (with the exception of the Proles). The people are constantly reminded of this by the slogan "Big Brother is watching you": a maxim that is ubiquitously on display throughout the novel.

In modern culture, the term "Big Brother" has entered the lexicon as a synonym for abuse of government power, particularly in respect to civil liberties, often specifically related to mass surveillance and a lack of choice in society.

In George Orwell's 1949 dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, the Thought Police (Thinkpol in Newspeak) are the secret police of the superstate of Oceania, who discover and punish thoughtcrime, personal and political thoughts unapproved by Ingsoc's regime. The Thinkpol use criminal psychology and omnipresent surveillance via informers, telescreens, cameras, and microphones, to monitor the citizens of Oceania and arrest all those who have committed thoughtcrime in challenge to the status quo authority of the Party and the regime of Big Brother. Orwell's concept of "policing thought" derived from the intellectual self-honesty shown by a person's "power of facing unpleasant facts"; thus, criticising the dominant ideology of British society often placed Orwell in conflict with ideologues, people advocating "smelly little orthodoxies".

The bus driver of the bus that I was on my way to school earlier today almost gave me the wrong type of ticket.

Grocery shopping at Walmart. Every time I buy groceries I feel like garbage when I leave and it's getting worse every week. The past few weeks I've gone half the shelves are empty and I'm wondering if panic buying has come back or there's yet another shortage, or both? I get it, I'm a worthless person that's just sucking up the resources because I'm single, poor, old and mentally disabled. I'm also worthless to society because I have no children to support. And they wonder why so many people are pro suicide or support euthanasia?
