The forest floor is different too, lots of ferns, moss and grass instead of dirt and pine needles.
In Washington we have the Hoh rain forest. The coastal douglas firs aren't quite as big as coastal redwoods in California, but there's a lot more moss. Also, new trees tend to grow right on top of old dead stumps, and when the dead material rots away you're left with jumples of tangled and exposed roots. This gives the forest a really enchanted feeling.
