Found this juveline snake in my backyard - being playfully taunted by a cat who at one stage had it in her mouth.

I put it in a ice-cream container and then a cardboard box to watch it and take some photos of it. I played with it a little, putting my hand near it and watching its head follow my hand movements. I touched it on the tail to see if it would react but it seemed very docile. Turns out it was an Eastern brown snake (Pseudonaja textilis) and is the second most venomous snake.

I don't know why I was playing with it like I was. It could have easily quickly bitten me.

Here are the pictures:

Cool pics man.

Although tbh I am not into snakes and I think they are disgusting animals and not cute lol but I really admire your bravery of playing with that thing. Are you gona sell it or give it to the zoo? or just keep it or what?

I just let it go - away from the house.

I always liked snakes for some reason. I just remembered I have a photo somewhere of a green snake wrapped along the length of my bike from when I was a kid. I might buy a snake now. This has reminded me of my old interest in them.

That's actually quite...hilarious. That is one venomous snake (a juvenile can easily kill a person several times over, plus their bite often barely registers to people as they have tiny fangs; a gift and a curse there). Lucky for you, and lucky for your cat too. They're fairly docile, and if they're cool, they'll be slow; they'll rather flee than fight unless backed into a corner and/or provoked.

There was one about the same size and coloring in our house several months back. I removed it.

Watch where you step in your yard (standing on such is a common cause of being bitten).

Those are very cute pictures. I hope that snake makes it home safely.

That is both very cool and very lucky on your part. I would take some time to familiarize yourself with venomous snakes located in your area. I like snakes too, but you really should respect what you're handling, especially in your part of the world. It is good you let him go. Here people will kill snakes, even though we have few venomous species.
