Am I a concerned citizen or a paranoid cynic?

My dad's got two jobs, one as a paramedic and a handyman, so I'm no stranger to the people he works for. One person, however, is giving me an Uncanny Valley effect, and his name is Jonas. By outward appearances, he seems like a normal guy. According to my father, he works for the fire department, and is "good people". What set me off about him was his residence, which looks like something out of a third-world country. Another thing: he really likes kids. A lot. So much that he wants to adopt a baby, apparently because he can't conceive. I saw him get in a car with a boy, half my age. That's the only time I saw him. I checked the sex offender registry. Nothing. Facebook. Nothing. Criminal records. Nothing. Fire department staff. Nothing. It's as if he doesn't exist. He's been trying to adopt for a few years now, but the system is screwing him over, perhaps for good reason. He doesn't appear to be married, or even have a job., besides being in a band.

Is he an innocent man, or a wolf waiting for Moses in the reeds?

I don't know. I've seen a lot of people who just really like kids. It doesn't need to be a fetish. Plus, I think if he was going to do something he would have already done it.

Sounds like you need social engineering. Go look up eliciting and verbal data farming. With any luck you should be able to use the info you get to either get on his good side(people are more open if they like you, duh) or figure out any aliases online (fish around for any matches to hobbies or preferences do a cross ref). I'd tell you more but after this it gets too complicated just to explain over text. Look up social engineering though, a useful skill to have for these things.
