Have you never even detected a hint of blackcurrant in a Cabernet Sauvignon, or grapefruit in a cheap white wine? Oh well, I can sort of relate, as for years I could only taste vinegar in red wines. Maybe that's because most cheap reds really were absolute rubbish back in the day, and white wines like Liebfraumilch were just alcoholic sugary water, but anyway, I think things have probably improved in recent years...
