so, i photographed this bit of cigarette package cellophane, and i was wondering... what is the name of that red thing that you pull on to open the package?

I'm surprised you didn't google that? I think one patent description says "with a tear open strip", maybe that helps.

lordy, i actually did google every permutation of the phrase, with every possible word included. i think it IS a tear open strip, thank you!

in the uk this would simply be called a "tear strip".
