Are there any historical myths and legends that sound so much better than the actual occurence, that you wish the legend were true instead?

I really like the legend of King Henry VIII having written Greensleeves as an effort to woo Anne Boleyn. But, nope, the song was actually composed sometime during Henry VIII's daughter, Elizabeth I's, reign.

Yeah a unicorn would be cool but Centaurs are super mean.

How can you be certain that Centaurs are mean? Perhaps they just get cranky from not being allowed at most 'All-You-Can-Eat' Salad bars...

Dear Joker, So perhaps they are cranky for not being allowed at an 'All-You-Can-Eat' barbecue place?

In addition, I definitely want Dragons. And Lamias. But I don't think that Lamias should be allowed to live In apartments where children live.

The legend of John Henry. He was a real guy who worked on the railroad, but the whole story of him vs. the steam drill is wildly exaggerated. Unfortunately, I might add.
