Are commercials actually still a good way to promote products to customers these days?

It seems that the commercials are creating an anti-commercial generation among the world that makes me think that commercialism and advertising are actually not the way to sell their products anymore but are actually contraproductive to the sales-rates due to the aggressive techniques and the deceiving of the customers for example. I mean the only thing that the excessive internet advertising has succeeded in is the creation of successfull and advanced ad-blockers in my opinion and the hate of mainstream products among some people.

Yes, adverts seem like an anachronism. Though I'm not entirely sure that the point of adverts is to sell products.

Tell me about it! I've spent all evening deleting spammers from this site; wading through the list of new members and picking out the fake member accounts, deleting those who only signed up to put links to dodgy products in their profile (to boost their Google page ranking). I've deleted around 200 spammer accounts this evening going back over the last three weeks. I'm sick of adverts for weight loss, age/wrinkle reduction cream, diet pills, real estate agents and dodgy loan shark companies.

Depending on the advert, it may make me remember the company, but it certainly doesn't make me want to buy anything from them. I guess that's the only real reason for them, to make the company recognizable therefore more trusted to the general public.
