So this is kind of a semi-serious discussion thread, unfortunately the only other place that this seemed to fit was PPR, and I'd like to avoid this turning into yet another religious flame war, so it's here.
Anyways, last Tuesday I was visiting my girlfriend in Casper. She's a pretty skilled fortuneteller, she does tarot readings for me and her other friends quite often, and it's almost scary how accurate she can get to the heart of the matter. I was inspired to try tarot reading myself after seeing her do it, but I had not gotten a deck for my own use. Well, while we were out shopping we stopped by a New-Age esque store in Casper called Wonders. She told me that she'd pick out a deck that she thought would fit me, although I still had to pay for it.
A few minutes later, I left the store with a beginner's kit that contained a Gilded Tarot deck and a guidebook. The art design on the cards were of a steampunk-ish design, and out of all of the decks there it was the one that drew my attention the most.
I spent the rest of that day and the bus ride back to Laramie the next day reading the guidebook. That night when I was about to go to bed, I decided to try a simple 5-card spread for myself.
Ironically enough, out of the 5 cards I drew, two were from the Pentacles suit and two were from the Wands suit. This intrigued me because Trish had done a very in-depth reading for me before I left, which consisted of a Celtic Cross spread with only the Minor Arcana cards, as well as a Star spread with only the Major Arcana cards, and then re-shuffling and performing a basic 5-card linear spread with all of the cards. Of all the Minor Arcana cards I got in that reading, about half of them were Pentacles. It's actually fitting, because my main concern at the moment is trying to find a job before the end of summer, because I need the money to go do things like NDK (anime convention) as well as take Trish to do things like snowboarding or go-karts. (She's the kind of girl who craves adventure: she doesn't mind the standard dinner+movie date but she had the most fun on our V-day date last year when I took her snowboarding. Definitely the action sports kind). The Pentacles deal with money and material wealth in general, while the Wand cards represent creativity and productivity, whether it's with one's personal hobbies or in the workplace. It makes sense because most of what's on my mind relates to the Pentacles and to a lesser extent, the Wands... so getting these cards two readings in a row is rather accurate.
Anyways, since then I've done two other readings, one for myself and one for my friend Jess. Jess's was extremely interesting, because she drew 3 Major Arcana cards out of the 5 in the spread I was using. Even more so, it seemed at first like the cards didn't really flow together, however I was able to draw upon what I knew of her and her life at the moment and make a connection. I've always been able to think laterally and make connections and correlations that most people miss... it's a skill that definitely comes in handy when reading the tarot.
Anyways, I was just wondering if there are other cartomancers (tarot readers) here on WP, or fortunetellers in general, so that we could all share our experiences and advice.
