Fear of flying.
Hi there! It's great to be back.
Listen, I'm VERY SCARED of flying on airplaines. I always think something wrong will happen, etc. etc. etc. You know what I mean. Thing is, it is my dream to go to New York City. And, yesterday, I was given the opportunity to go there.
It will be my very first flight when it comes to crossing an ocean. I need support. Should I go? Will I be able to confront my fear? Some people say it is in those flights when you lose your phobia...
I do need advice, pur-lease!

I would suggest notifying the airline about your fear, as well as the hostess that will be in charge as their duty is to make life comfortable for all their passengers. They know how to deal with the situation and have experience of many people that have the same fear. Also consider taking calming medication (I would take Oxazepam along as prescribed for me when I need calming, but your doctor should be able to suggest something appropriate).
Try to be friendly and chat to the person/s next to you or if you don't want to do that, take a book or magazine of your favourite interest to keep occupied with.
Remember that flying is comparitively safe and that thousands reach their destinations this way daily.

I sort of have a fear of flying. I moved from Louisiana to Vermont 6 months ago & I always traveled by Greyhound which is a 2 day trip. One of my mom's cousins told her 1ce that he could give me free plane tickets(he travels for work & he pays with his credit card but the company reimburses him when they see the receipt so he has alot of flyer miles accumulated) I'm not interested thou. I think the airport would be very confusing & overwhelming; greyhound stations can be too but I know what it's like. I was with my girlfriend for my 1st Greyhound trip so I wasn't as nervous as I could of been. I think if you are flying with someone you know it could be a big help. Another thing that worries me about flying is that I used to get motion sickness as a kid. MY GP gave me a prescription for a med & I only felt like I should take it a couple times for bus trips. Ask a doc for a scrip for a motion sickness med if that's one of your concerns about flying. Also as envirozentinel mentioned you could ask a doc for a med to help you be more relaxed like a benzopine or a blood-pressure med. I take buses here in Vermont because neither me or my girlfriend can drive & I'm fine a majority of the time but when the bus is really crowded or noisy I feel claustrophobic like an anxiety attack. I took eht benzo Ativan/(Lorazepam because I had some & it helped but it made me tired but Ativan has properties of making people tired. I talked to my GP here about it a couple weeks ago & she prescribed Klonopin/Clonazepam It has a gradual onset & last longer & I think it'may hlp but the buses haven't been that crowded sense I got it so I'm not sure.
