I feel like an idiot asking this but what does "stimming" mean? I've seen it used in several posts and I have an idea of what it means but I just want to know for sure. Thanks

A lot of us self stimulate. We rock whilst sitting, pace back and forth, chew our lips, click pens, tap fingers, talk to ourselves. . .

just part of the fun of being an aspie

Not sure what the official definition is but it refers to physical responses likely routed
in some neurological mechanism. In my case right now my leg is shaking. My subconscious mind is making me do it and perhaps my mind is getting calmed by it.

What Machine said. Next time you catch yourself bouncing your leg, stop and see if you feel a bit uneasy or stressed. TRY NOT TO DO ANY OTHER SORT OF STIMMING.

I thought it was just a genetic thing, but virtually everyone in my family shakes their foot, perhaps it's more than just genetic.
