I learned that Americans refer to a banana skin as a banana peel.

And that very few, if any, Portuguese or Brazilian cities begin with the letter 'N'.

you made me curious! :P in portugal i found Nazaré, Nadadouro, and Nadrupe. though it's weird if they're rarer than "usual".

today i learned that it's possible to vomit your esophageal lining in the more advanced stages of ebola.

^ Fair enough, but in all my investigations, these three places are described as villages or parishes. Population of Nadadouro apparently 1,904. :)

No matter how many signs, there are on the recycling bins, people will not read them.

Today, I learnt that fandom's first history was written and published by Jack Speer in 1939. Link

12 inches = 1 foot
3 feet = 1 yard

These two I already knew. But the next ones were interesting to me:

22 yards = 1 chain
10 chains = 1 furlong
8 furlongs = 1 mile

(Not "approximately equal" but "equal", for all of them.)

Therefore, 1 mile = 8 furlongs = 80 chains = 1760 yards.

Pointless, but still pretty interesting.

Grid cells located in the endorhinal cortex regulate the individuals sense of space. I have a horrible sense of direction, evidently mine dislike me.

^^^ That reminds me of a girl I worked with many years ago who married a guy named Kiss. It looked strange when she signed her new name.

I guess she could simply have signed with an X!

I just read that spider-fighting is a popular if not very humane pastime in Florida prisons. The inmates catch and keep them as pets. I also read that three inmates got into a nasty fight over the theft of a beloved arachnid. :spiderman:
