The Grackles have definitely returned — seen them passing over for three days in a row now.

Street sweepers out today, cleaning up a winter's worth of sand and gravel everywhere.

We actually get spring birds fairly early in NYC, for some reason.

Most of the spring birds arrive in NYC by February.

We had one 75-degree day last week.

Longer days; sun higher in the sky.
Bees (hundreds of them) in the p**** willow.
Groundhogs.
Crocuses, daffodils, purple sage, bluets, bloodroot flowers.
Maple's red buds.
Cherry, apple, & pear blossoms.
Return of the hummingbirds, rose-breasted grosbeaks, an occasional indigo bunting.
Mating & nesting.

The sound of a unionized snowplow keeping to schedule, scraping along dry streets.

Oh, yeah; STRAWBERRIES! Locally grown and field ripened; sweeter than sugar candy.

On Saturday morning, I went out to an event when it was still dark, and drove home from work when it was still light. That was weird, but it was a good day.

I live in Atlanta, and one of the things I love about my city is how it's covered in trees. Right now the cherries and dogwoods and redbuds are all blooming everywhere around me, and it's wonderful! I haven't noticed the Bartlett pears in bloom yet, but I'm not actually sure if they haven't yet or if I'm just not around them as much this year. They're usually pretty early in spring too as I recall.
