Okay, here's the thing. About two years ago, my left elbow began to itch and sting me really badly around wintertime. However, after a while, this became a problem even in the heat of the summer. And now, just this week, my elbow is now extremely dark and bruised-looking, only it's obviously not a bruise. My mom, my grandma, and the lady at the pharmacy counter all believe it could be siriyisis (or however you spell it). However, we're not sure it runs in the family. My little cousin, Jessica, has exema on her left elbow, but this is definitely not that. Anyway, it looks so bad that my mom nearly threw up. I'm not joking.

The only other skin problems I've seemed to ever have were really bad cases of hives. But I haven't had hives since I was eight. I had them for an allergic reaction to cinnamon (outgrew that allergy), when the chlorine water in a pool was too thick, and to fireants (which we live nowhere near anymore). I have never had a problem with acne or anything of the sort and when I had chicken pox (I was four) it was apparently a very mild case. Other than that, my skin is pretty much perfect. So why is my elbow doing this? My mom doesn't want to "chase around town and wait four hours for a dermatologist to look at it". Help!! !

Try using aloe on your elbows. If that doesn't work then a trip to the doctor maybe in order. Second thought, skip the aloe and see your doctor. The skin could be infected. I had a similar problem years ago-dry cracked skin-painful on the elbows. But I caught it time and the aloe worked for me. Definitely go to the doctor. He/she will probably prescribe a topical ointment to heal it.

I've been trying aloe vera for quite a while now. I have some stuff of it here and I've also been using my teacher's aloe vera plant's goo. But since I've started using that plant, it's really gotten bad. I know I'm not allergic to it though, so I don't know what the heck is wrong with it. Plus this is only affecting my elbow, so that's really gotten me clueless about it.

Yes, thank you. It's hard to remember all these medical spellings!

You could try topical benedryl. If that does nothing or makes it worse you should probably see a dermatologist.

If the benedryl works but the problem comes back when you stop then you should also see a dermotologist in that instance.

Account for anything your elbow may be touching. Are you resting it on a desk? Perphaps it touches a chair that you sit in. Do you wear anything that is different at the elbows? What about the sleeves of your coat/jacket? Be sure to pay attention and take note.

It sounds like it made be infected with some sort of fungus? If it is usually dry, then it developes cracks in the skin and some form of bacteria or fungus can get into the lower dermal area...the only thing that I know might work, short of going on an oral anti-biotic,is "teatree Oil" which you can find in health food stores....most of them should have a knowedgable person who can help you fogure out what "strength" might work best.

I do think a dermitologist would be better but teatree oil, does work on fungus and bacteria.
