US dollar coins are still made for circulation but they haven't been popular for decades and they're almost never seen. Some of them have some amazing features — is this the first time the Cherokee language has appeared on a coin? And note also that the design "breaks the frame," with the hand actually writing the inscription around the margin. I wonder if that has been done in coins before? (Pretty sure it hasn't in US coins.)
